GEOSTORM Fails to Move Viewers in Second

Korean films remained on top as the Chuseok holiday winner extended its lead and put down all new competition. Overall, local films accounted for 57% of the 1.96 million tickets sold over the frame.

Local gang thriller THE OUTLAWS scored its second first place finish in its third week as it welcomed another 787,000 viewers (USD 5.94 million), a drop of just 17%, for a stellar running total of 4.97 million spectators (USD 36.24 million).

Hollywood disaster film Geostrom experienced a subdued start in second with 606,000 entries (USD 4.64 million) and 695,000 tickets (USD 5.27 million) sold in four days.

LEE Won-tae’s period drama Man of Will with CHO Jin-woong and SONG Seung-heon had a lackluster debut in third with 201,000 spectators (USD 1.42 million) and 260,000 seats filled (USD 1.8 million) since Thursday.

The Fortress slipped another 69% and two spots for another 64,000 sales (USD 459,000) to bring its total to 3.77 million admissions (USD 27.12 million).

Kingsman: The Golden Circle remained in fifth with 44,000 viewers (USD 338,000) as it receded 71%. The action sequel has brought in 4.92 million spectators (USD 36.06 million) in total.

Darren Aronofsky’s mother!, despite a gala berth at the Busan International Film Festival, was a non-starter in 11th place, with just 22,000 entries (USD 160,000) during its debut, and 31,000 (USD 220,000) in four days.

Things are set to heat up as Thor: Ragnarok enters the market place, where it is poised for a big debut this weekend.
