As a result, the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival, which opens in Montreal, Canada on July 14, will wrap up its 3-week journey with Next Sohee at 6:30 p.m. on August 3. Previously, Next Sohee was selected as the closing film of the Critics’ Week at the 75th Festival de Cannes and premiered for the first time among Korean films. At the time of the screening, the film received enthusiastic empathy from audiences around the world and received favorable reviews.

The Fantasia International Film Festival introduced, “Writer-director Jung July created an unforgettable feature film that shakes us to our cores. Next Sohee is a true masterpiece and one of the must-sees of Fantasia 2022.” It also continued, “In the role of Sohee, the young Kim Sieun delivers a masterful performance in which she demonstrates an exceptional range, and the great Bae Doona lights up the screen with an exemplary restraint and sobriety that gradually crumbles, leading the viewer to break down at the same time as her,” mentioning the superb acting of the two actors.

In addition, Next Sohee has been invited to the competition section of the 12th World Cinema Amsterdam in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from August 20 to 27. It’s the 2nd official invitation for Director Jung July to the World Cinema Amsterdam Film Festival after her first feature, A Girl at My Door in 2014,

Next Sohee is a story about Sohee (Kim Sieun), a high school student who starts training for a subcontracted position at a call center, and a mysterious incident leads her to death. Detective Yujin (Bae Doona), who doubts it, starts an investigation and goes deep into the case. The film is based on a true story that occurred in 2017. Next Sohee, which raises high expectations with a series of overseas film festival invitations, is scheduled to be released in Korea after meeting the audience through overseas film festivals.
