NEW to Use Generative Art to Promote Release of Park Sodam Film

Next Entertainment World (NEW) will become the first Korean studio to experiment with non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The studio announced on December 20 that they would partner with Treasures Club, a company that specializes in NFT art, to create artwork inspired by their upcoming action film Special DELIVERY ahead of the film’s release on January 12.

NEW will use blockchain-powered generative art technology to produce NFTs for Special DELIVERY, which will then be sold at OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace. Generative art is created in whole or in part through computer automation, and blockchain technologies ensure that each piece is wholly unique and cannot be copied.

The Special DELIVERY NFT, which will be based on Klaytn, the Kakao cryptocurrency, will have a limited run of 3,000 pieces and will begin presales on OpenSea on December 29 before the main sale, scheduled for January 2.

Special DELIVERY features Parasite (2019) actress Park Sodam as a delivery driver who never fails to make a delivery on time, no matter what her DELIVERY. She becomes involved in an unexpected incident after a child gets in her car. It is the latest film by director Park Daemin, who previously made Private Eye (2009) and Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River (2016).

According to Kim Jaemin, the head of NEW’s film division, the company is looking to new technologies to secure the growth of Korean content in the future, such as NFTs and the metaverse.
