Events Screenings for HOSTAGE: MISSING CELEBRITY and SINKHOLE in France

The Paris Korean Film Festival (FFCP) returns for its 16th edition on October 26, at which point it will open with Ryoo Seungwan’s critically acclaimed action-thriller Escape from Mogadishu, starring Kim Yunseok and Zo Insung in a true-life tale of Korean diplomats attempting to escape a war-torn Somalia in the early 1990s. The film is currently the highest-grossing film at the Korean box office this year.

The festival will continue until November 2, when it will close with Lee Joonik’s award-winning black and white period drama The Book of Fish, starring Sul Kyunggu as an exiled royal scholar who learns about local marine life from an island fisherman played by Byun Yohan.

FFCP will also stage a pair of ‘Event Screenings’ for director Pil Kamsung’s debut, the kinetic thriller Hostage: Missing Celebrity with Hwang Jungmin playing himself, and Kim Jihoon’s disaster action-comedy Sinkhole with Cha Seungwon.

The ‘Paysage’ section, which shines a light on indie works, will this year include choice festival-premiered selections, including but not limited to Park Kunyoung’s Jeonju Cinema Project A Distant Place, Lee Ranhee’s A Leave, which debuted in the New Currents section the Busan International Film Festival, Yoon Danbi’s award-winning Moving On (2019) and Short Vacation from Kwon Minpyo and Seo Hansol, which screened at the Berlin International Film Festival this year after its Busan premiere.

Also to be presented will be advance screenings of the Thai-Korean horror The Medium, Kwon Ohseung’s serial killer horror-thriller Midnight, and Introduction, one of the two new films from Hong Sangsoo this year.

Finally, short filmmaker Lee Yeonchul will be the focus of this year’s FlyAsiana program, which will showcase his previous work.
