Korean Sales Outfit Adds MOON So-ri Trial Drama JUROR 8 to Slate
Towards the beginning of this year’s European Film Market (EFM), taking place alongside the Berlin International Film Festival, Korean sales boutique M-Line Distribution reported several sales to international territories for new films in its lineup, including horror-comedy THE ODD FAMILY : ZOMBIE ON SALE and period drama FENGSHUI (2018).
Released on February 14 in Korea, THE ODD FAMILY : ZOMBIE ON SALE is the directorial debut of LEE Min-jae, who previously worked on several films as an editor. The film stars JUNG Jae-young, UHM Ji-won and KIM Nam-gil as members of a provincial family who decide to harbor a teenage zombie. LEE’s debut was sold to Clover Films (Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam), Fine Film (Japan), The Korea Daily (North America), Long Shong (Taiwan) and Sonamu Cinehouse (Indonesia).
One of last year’s major Chuseok holiday titles, FENGSHUI (2018), from Perfect Game (2011) director PARK Hee-kon, takes place in the Joseon Era as various factions try to gain control over a burial site which is believed to grant its owner the royal lineage. The film, which stars CHO Seung-woo, JI Sung and KIM Sung-kyun, was bought by CJ E&M (Hong Kong, Indonesia and Thailand), Hark (Japan), Hwa Yea (Malaysia and Singapore), The Korea Daily (North America) and Long Shong (Taiwan), while Emphasis picked up the worldwide in-flight rights.
M-Line Distribution have also added the upcoming trial drama Juror 8 to their sales slate. This based-on-real-life debut from director HONG Seung-wan features MOON So-ri (Oasis, 2002) playing the judge presiding over the first ever trial by jury that was held in Korea in 2008.
