Joe Mi-no to Helm March 1st Movement Drama RESISTANCE

Snowpiercer (2013) star KO Asung has selected her next film project. The actress has chosen to appear in Resistance (translated title) as the Korean independence figure YU Gwan-sun. The film will be the latest from A Million (2009) director Joe Mi-no.

YU was an important figure of the Korean resistance movement during the Japanese Colonial Era. She was one of the organizers of the March 1st Movement that took place in 1919. As a major participant in Korea’s peaceful demonstration she became a symbol for the country’s struggle for independence.

KO became a sensation overnight at the tender age of 13 when she appeared in BONG Joon-ho’s 2006 smash hit The Host, which held the title of most successful Korean film of all time for eight years. She teamed up with BONG again for the sci-fi Snowpiercer and has since headlined varied works such as the drama Thread of Lies (2014) and the thriller Office (2015). Her last leading role was in the Korean War drama A Melody to Remember (2016) though she also made a special appearance in last year’s prosecutor drama The King.

The film will mark the first project in a decade for director Joe Mi-no, who previously made Jungle Juice (2002), Les Formidables (2006) and A Million (2009). Shooting for Resistance is expected to start this month with a release planned at some point next year.
