Action-Comedy Will Mark Debut of SHIN Hyun-sung
UHM Jeong-hwa looks set to return to the big screen after a four-year absence through the upcoming project OK Madam (literal translation). The star’s last film outing was KANG Hyo-jin’s 2015 family comedy Wonderful Nightmare. UHM’s representatives have stated that she is positively considering appearing in the project.
OK Madam is described as an action-comedy that would feature UHM as a strong-headed middle-aged woman who sells traditional donuts in a market. Despite her harsh outward appearance, she is actually a deeply caring woman who is devoted to her family.
The singer-turned-actress has played a variety of roles on screen, easily switching between comic and dramatic registers. Her notable credits include the disaster blockbuster Haeundae (2009), the baroque horror Bestseller (2010), the political comedy-drama Dancing Queen (2012) and the kidnap thriller Montage (2013).
The project will mark the directing debut of SHIN Hyun-sung, who previously wrote the action short Pandora (2011) and was part of the production team of the 3D horror omnibus MAD SAD BAD (2014).
Production on OK Madam is expected to take place in the first half of next year. The film will be produced by SANAI Pictures, known for The Spy Gone North and A Violent Prosecutor (2016), among many others, and 88 Avenue.
