New Currents Drama Awarded in Switzerland
KIM Ui-suk’s debut work After My Death (2017) has earned the Jury Prize from this year’s 32nd Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF). Following its world premiere in the New Currents competition of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) last October, the indie drama made its international debut as part of FIFF’s international competition in Switzerland.
The film chronicles the aftermath of a high school girl’s death and how it affects her school and the people around her. Before long, one of her classmates, who may have been the last person to see her before she passed, is questioned regarding the girl’s death.
The film was strongly recognized in Busan last year, where it earned both the New Currents Award and the Actress of the Year Award for lead JEON Yeo-bin. It also screened in competition at the Seoul Independent Film Festival in December.
