Hong Sangsoo Receives 5th Grand Prize from Busan Film Critics

KWON Hae-hyo and HAN Ye-ri Take Acting Honors



Director Hong Sangsoo will receive the Grand Prize at the 18th Busan Film Critics Association Awards for both On the Beach at Night Alone and The Day After. It is the auteur’s fifth time to take home the prize, following previous wins for Virgin Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors (2000), Night and Day (2008), Oki’s Movie (2010) and Right Now, Wrong Then (2015).

This year’s Best Actor prize went to KWON Hae-hyo of The Day After, while HAN Ye-ri earned the Best Actress accolade for her role in ZHANG Lu’s A Quiet Dream. ZHANG’s film was also a recipient of one of this year’s Special Jury Awards, along with KIM Soo-hyun’s Jeonju Cinema Project Beaten Black and Blue. KIM Yang-hee’s The Poet and the Boy, another Jeonju Cinema Project earned the Best Screenplay Award. 

KWON Kwi-deok and PARK Jung-hun took home the Best Technical Award for their stunt work and cinematography on JUNG Byung-gil’s The Villainess. LEE Dong-woo earned Best New Director for No Money, No Future, while KOO Kyo-hwan received Best New Actor for Jane and CHOI Hee-seo won Best New Actress for Anarchist from Colony.

The 18th Busan Film Critics Association Awards will take place on December 8th at the Busan Cinema Center in Centum City. Awarded films will be screened in Busan the following day.
