MIN Kyu-dong Wraps Comfort Women Tale HER STORY

KIM Hee-ae and KIM Hae-sook Lead Shimonoseki Trials Court Drama



MIN Kyu-dong has wrapped his upcoming comfort woman court drama Her Story (working title), which features actresses KIM Hee-ae, KIM Hae-sook and LEE Yoo-young. The drama, which will be released by Next Entertainment World, completed two months of production on November 6th. 

Her Story chronicles the 23 hearings that took place in Japan from 1992 to 1998 that have been dubbed the Shimonoseki Trials. The trials featured testimonials from 10 Korean women, including 3 comfort women who had been forced to provide sexual services for the Japanese military during World War II.

Playing the representative leading the plaintiffs, KIM Hee-ae is a well-known TV actress who has recently appeared in films such as Thread of Lies (2014) and C'est Si Bon (2015). A presence on the film scene since the 1980s, KIM Hae-sook has appeared in some of the most well known Korean films over the years in a variety of roles, including CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Thieves (2012) and PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden last year.

The cast also features LEE Yoo-young, of Hong Sangsoo’s Yourself and Yours (2016) and the revenge thriller Fatal Intuition (2015), MOON Suk, known for her roles in LEE Man-hee’s 1970s masterpieces such as The Road to Sampo (1975), and YE Soo-jung (Save the Green Planet, 2003).

Director MIN, known for Memento Mori (1999) and All About My Wife (2012), most recently helmed the period erotic drama The Treacherous (2015), which also starred LEE Yoo-young. Her Story is being produced by his company SOO FILM and will be released next year.
