2017 Edition Taking Place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders Incubator: FLY2017 is taking place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. On November 15th, the Busan Film Commission (BFC), one of the organizers, announced details of FLY2017 in a press release. FLY projects aim to find young filmmakers in Asia and help them meet mentors in order to provide easy access to film education and facilities. This past August, FLY2017 selected 21 trainees from 11 countries including Korea. All selected trainees have been divided into two groups and worked on pre-production through an online discussion accompanied by tutors and mentors.

From the entrance ceremony that took place on November 20th, trainees will produce two short films through writing scripts, scouting locations, holding auditions, filming and post production over the course of 14 days. Additionally, the program will offer intensive filmmaking workshops and special lectures about directing, filming, music and editing, as well as screenings with instructors and Q&A sessions. FLY017 will end with a graduation ceremony on December 3rd. The mentors include Korean romantic drama Always (2011) director SONG Il-gon, Indonesian omnibus drama In the Absence of the Sun (2014) director Lucky KUSWANDI, Korean period drama LOVE, LIES (2016) cinematographer CHO Eun-soo and Indonesian short film On the Origin of Fear (2016) cinematographer Bayu Prihantoro FILEMON. The two short films produced by the program’s participants will be entered in this year’s Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) and will be played at CGV in Yogyakarta, 5 p.m. on December 2nd, 2017.
