11 Films to Screen in Argentina

The Mar Del Plata International Film Festival once again features Korea prominently at this year’s 32nd edition with a special program being devoted to the country’s cinema. In all, 11 Korean films screen at the event, which kicked off on Friday, November 17th and runs until 26th.

KIM Dae-hwan’s second film The First Lap, which premiered at the Jeonju International Film Festival as one of this year’s Jeonju Cinema Projects, competes in Mar Del Plata’s ‘International Competition’. The ‘Latin American Competition’ also features a Korean connection, with the participation of Adrián Villar Rojas’ Argentina-South Korea co-production The Theatre of Disappearance.

Prolific filmmaker Hong Sangsoo features in this year’s ‘Panorama’ program with two of his three 2017 films, The Day After and Claire’s Camera, which both debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.

The bulk of the Korean films feature in the ‘Korea, Guest Country of Honor’ section. These includes RYOO Seung-wan’s first and most recent films, Die Bad (2000) and The Battleship Island, JANG Hun’s box office hit A Taxi Driver, JUNG Byung-gil woman-led action film The Villainess, JANG Woo-jin’s indie drama Autumn, Autumn, SHIM Chan-yang’s Behind the Dark Night, which was the Best Korean Film Awardee at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival this year, LIM Tea-gue's The Seeds of Violence and KO Bong-soo's Loser’s Adventure, both of which competed at Jeonju in May, with the former picking up the Grand Prize in the Korean competition.
