Director MIN Kyu-dong to Tell HER STORY

Following 2015’s The Treacherous, Director MIN Kyu-dong is getting ready to return with his seventh film, Her Story (working title). Based on real court testimonies from the 1990s about the ordeals suffered by comfort women, the drama will feature KIM Hae-sook and KIM Hee-ae in the lead roles.

Her Story will bring the Shimonoseki Trials to the big screen. During the trials, which took place from 1992-98, ten women who endured sexual slavery during Japan’s occupation of Korea stood up to the Japanese courts to demand retribution.

Active since the late 1970s and known for hit films such as CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Thieves (2012) and PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden last year, KIM Hae-sook will play a former comfort woman who takes the stand and shares her story. KIM Hee-ae, playing a travel agent who stands in solidarity with the plaintiffs, was last in theaters with C’est Si Bon (2013). She has been busy on the small screen in the interim. Both actresses previously worked together 13 years ago on the KBS2 drama Precious Family.

Since debuting as a co-director with KIM Tae-yong on Memento Mori in 1999, Director MIN has forged a career marked with several hit romantic dramas, including 2012’s All About My Wife. Beyond his drama work, KIM has continued to work in horror as well, taking part in all three installments of the Horror Stories omnibus franchise. His most recent work The Treacherous was an erotic thriller set during the Joseon Era.

Next Entertainment World is on board as distributor while MIN’s company Too Film will produce. Production will commence on Her Story in September.
