SNAPSHOT Takes Best Foreign Language Screenplay Award in Madrid

KIM Chang-kyun Debuts 2 Films in Spain
 

The Korean independent film Snapshot, from director KIM Chang-kyun, has picked up the Best Original Screenplay of a Foreign Language Feature Film award from the recently concluded 2017 edition of the Madrid International Film Festival, which took place from July 8th to 15th.

Snapshot features KIM in the leading role as a man on a trip to Thailand who finds himself drifting from his girlfriend. KIM has previously worked at the broadcaster SBS and was also in the camera departments of several feature films, including Over the Rainbow (2002), Madeleine (2003) and The Outlaw (2010).

Director KIM premiered two films in Madrid as the festival also featured his work Cine Cafe in Paris, which was nominated in both the ‘Best Feature Comedy’ and ‘Best Lead Actor in a Foreign Language Feature Film’ categories. KIM has already shot his next film A Trip with Friends, which also takes place in Thailand.

The Madrid International Film Festival is one of six events from Film Fest International, a platform that has given indie filmmakers a place to showcase their works across major cities in Europe since 2006. Other events take place in London, Amsterdam, Nice, Milan and Berlin.

Previous Korean works to compete in Madrid include CHO Geun-hyun’s Late Spring (2014) which vied in the Best Producer, Best Foreign Language Feature Film and Best Lead Actress in a Foreign Language Film categories in 2014.
