26 YEARS Director CHO Geun-hyun Returns with Period Drama

Following the success of this year’s legal drama New Trial, actor JUNG Woo has found his next leading role, which will be in the drama Heung-bu. Featuring alongside him will be busy actor KIM Joo-hyuk and handling the director's reign is CHO Geun-hyun, who debuted with 26 Years in 2012 and is already on his fourth directorial outing.

Based on the Joseon Era story ‘Heungbu and Nolbu', the film focuses on the character Heung-bu (played by JUNG), an author of popular fiction who writes a novel in order to find his lost brother. During his quest he meets Jo-hyuk (played by KIM), a philanthropic nobleman who provides Heung-bu with welcome enlightenment.

Prior to New Trial, JUNG co-starred with HWANG Jung-min in the smash hit mountaineering drama The Himalayas, which scaled to almost eight million viewers in late 2015. Meanwhile some of KIM’s recent credits have included commercial hit Confidential Assignment and critical sensations The Truth Beneath (2016) and Hong Sangsoo’s Yourself and Yours (2016).

Director CHO scored an early hit with his revenge thriller 26 Years, which wound up with close to three million admissions. He followed that up with the erotic drama Late Spring (2014), which introduced to Korea new star LEE Yoo-young, and in 2016 he released the family film Bungaeman.

Production on Heung-bu begins in May with Lotte Entertainment on board to finance and distribute the picture.
