North Korea Spy Thriller Sells Across the World for CJ Entertainment

Lunar New Year holiday chart-topper Confidential Assignment is gearing up for an international rollout after distributor CJ Entertainment revealed that the film has been sold to 42 territories. Among the film’s destinations are the Middle East, India, the Philippines and Mongolia. The deals were reported ahead of its market premiere at the European Film Market in Berlin later this month.

Following its Korean launch on January 18th, Confidential Assignment opened in the United States on January 27th through CJ Entertainment America, and will next see release in Australia and New Zealand on February 9th, Hong Kong and Macao a week later on the 16th, Taiwan on the 17th and Vietnam on March 3rd, where it will also be distributed directly by CJ.

Confidential Assignment features star Hyun-bin (The Fatal Encounter, 2014) who plays a North Korean agent who goes to Seoul and partners with a South Korean police officer (LUCK-KEY’s YOO Hae-jin) to track down a North Korean military officer (KIM Joo-hyuk of Yourself and Yours) involved in US dollar counterfeiting.

As of the end of January, the film has brought in 4.86 million viewers (USD 34.54 million), making it the top-selling Lunar New Year title of 2017.

The film is the latest success story from powerhouse JK Film, previously responsible for Haeundae (2009), Ode to My Father (2014) and The Himalayas (2015). Director KIM Sung-hoon debuted in 2013 with the musical drama A Wonderful Moment.
