Brace of Awards for Korean Filmmakers in Moscow

Prizes for WORST WOMAN and MRS.B. A NORTH KOREAN WOMAN
 
 
Two Korean filmmakers walked away with awards from the recent Moscow International Film Festival, which ran from June 23rd to 30th. Director KIM Jong-kwan received the FIPRESCI Prize for his indie drama Worst Woman while Jero YUN came away with the Silver George for the best film of the documentary competition for his work Mrs.B. A North Korean Woman.
 
Featuring HAN Ye-ri (Haemoo, 2014) as an actress who becomes caught between three different men in her real life, Worst Woman debuted in the Korean Competition section of the Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) this spring. Director KIM previously helmed the indie drama Come, Closer, which debuted at the Busan International Film Festival in 2010. The FIPRESCI Prize is an award given at major film festivals by the International Federation of Film Critics.
 
The documentary Mrs.B. A North Korean Woman, another title that premiered in the Korean Competition section of the JIFF this year, is one of two festival titles from YUN this year, who also made the fiction short Hitchhiker, which was invited to screen in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival this year.
 
Mrs.B. A North Korean Woman was also at Cannes to screen as part of the ACID (Association du Cinéma Indépendant pour sa Diffusion) selection. The film was co-produced between France and Korea.
