Chuseok Comedy-Thriller Looks to Continue Hit Run

THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE will be released in Japan in February 2016, beginning with screenings in Tokyo, under the title Two Detectives (in Korea the film is known as Detective: The Beginning). The CJ Entertainment comedy-thriller with KWON Sang-woo and SUNG Dong-il was a solid performer during the Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving Day) holiday, winding up with 2.63 million admissions (USD 17.73 million), leading to talk of a sequel.

From director KIM Joung-hoon, who previously helmed the romantic comedy Petty Romance (2010), THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE features KWON as a blogger who indulges in his passion for investigation by going through cold cases, to the eternal chagrin of his wife, who scolds him for not taking care of their child and comic book store. When someone close to him dies, he becomes very involved in the case, to the annoyance of the lead detective, but eventually the two form an uneasy bond.

A heartthrob who has appeared in modern classics such as My Tutor Friend (2003) and Spirit Of Jeet Keun Do - Once Upon A Time In High School (2004), KWON has recently featured in a pair of Chinese productions, including Jackie CHAN’s Chinese Zodiac (2013), in addition to his work on television.

SUNG is a major character actor who can be seen in some of Korea’s biggest films, including Take Off (2009) and Miss Granny (2014).
