Eclectic Korean Colors on Show in Austalia

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is just a few short weeks away from its 2015 edition, which will feature a sextet of features from Korea. Five of those will screen in the festival’s ‘Accent on Asia’ section while one film will vie for the People's Choice Award for Best Documentary.

After breaking the all time independent film record with 4.8 million admissions at home, JIN Mo-young’s My Love, Don’t Cross that River, the documentary about the final days of a couple’s 76-year marriage, will screen in the documentary section following numerous other festival selections, not to mention a Best Documentary Prize from the LA Film Festival.

Among the 44 films playing in the ‘Accent on Asia’ stream, Korean titles will include SHIM Sung-bo’s naval thriller Haemoo, executive produced and co-written by BONG Joon-ho, PARK Jung-bum’s epic indie drama and Jeonju Digital Project Alive, HAN Jun-hee’s Cannes Critics’ Week selection, the female-led gangster thriller Coin Locker Girl, HONG Sangsoo’s breezy 16th film Hill of Freedom and KIM Dong-myung’s kleptomaniac indie drama The Liar.

MIFF kicks off on July 30th and will carry on till August 16th.
