CHOI Seung-hyun Gambling Drama Lures Big Bang Fans

Tazza – The Hidden Card is still going strong in Asian theatres. Following its North American release on September 26th, Tazza – The Hidden Card has reached out to East Asian audiences with its releases in Hong Kong and Taiwan. While the film didn’t even come close to the top ten in North America, when it opened on the 2nd of October in Hong Kong, the film took 10th place at the box office during its first week although it slowly fell off the chart, according to Rentrak. Released on the 21st of November, it found itself to be in better shape in Taiwan, hitting the 9th spot at the box office. We will have to wait and see if the film will go up the ladder or if it’ll fall off the chart again, but its current standing at Taiwan is the best out of the international releases the film has had so far.

Tazza – The Hidden Card stars CHOI Seung-hyun, who is famous as TOP, a member of a K-pop group Big Bang. Along with CHOI, veteran actor KIM Yun-seok, SHIN Se-kyung of Hindsight (2011), KWAK Do-won, and YOO Hae-jin play major roles in the film. KANG Hyong-chul of Scandal Makers (2008) and Sunny (2011) directed the film.

This sequel follows Dae-gil who is the nephew of Goni, who was played by CHO Seung-woo in the original, Tazza: The High Rollers (2006). Focusing on the gambling world of ‘Hwatu’ again, Dae-gil plays the game of his lifetime.

The film only managed middling returns in the domestic market but set a record as an r-rated film by accruing more than two million admissions in the shortest amount of time. It hit just over four million admissions during its run, and remained in the top ten chart for a little over a month.

Tazza – The Hidden Card will open in Japanese theatres on January 23rd.
