Kicks off November 20 in Brooklyn Academy of Music

For its 12th edition, and its third in the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s BAMcinématek, the New York Korean Film Festival (NYKFF) will feature an eclectic mix of current Korean releases. The festival will run for four days beginning on November 20th, screening seven features.

First up will be ZHANG Lu’s well-regarded Gyeongju, starring PARK Hae-il and SHIN Min-a. The languid drama of a professor’s return to Korea screened in completion at the Locarno International Film Festival this summer.

NYKFF is also set to screen some of biggest Korean hits of the year, including YANG Woo-suk’s courtroom drama The Attorney starring SONG Kang-ho, and recent period successes The Pirates from LEE Seok-hoon and KIM Han-min’s Roaring Currents, the naval war pic starring CHOI Min-sik as Admiral YI Sun-shin, which became the highest grossing Korean film of all time.

JANG Jin’s colourful transgender cop comedy thriller Man on High Heels will also be featured, along with Cannes selectee A Hard Day, from KIM Seong-hun, and KIM Kyung-mook’s indie comedy Futureless Things.

The festival will be co-presented by The Korea Society and Subway Cinema (also responsible for the New York Asian Film Festival). Online streaming service DramaFever will also be supporting the event by hosting additional screenings online, including The Fatal Encounter and LEE Myung-se’s mystery film M (2007).
