2014 Evening of Korean Cinema Greatly Attended Amid Hot Fever

The event introduced films by internationally rising Korean directors and popular Korean independent films.
The Korean Film Council (Chairman KIM Eui-suk) held ‘2014 Evening of Korean Cinema’ Party to promote exchanges among filmmakers and actors who took part in the Busan International Film Festival from around the world from 8:00 pm on October 6. The event held in Grand Ballroom of Western Chosun Hotel promoted exchanges among Korean and foreign people working in the film industry including directors, actors and actresses of film featured in the festival and people related to major international film festivals.
The event played the video ‘The Power of Korean Cinema’ which shows the present of Korean cinema in 2014 including 2014 Korean box office results, Korean directors getting attention through overseas film festivals and popular Korean diversity and short films.
In the meantime, Cameron BAILEY, chairperson of the Toronto International Film Festival picked up the Korean Cinema Contribution Prize which is given to foreigners who contributed to informing the world of Korean cinema by the Korean Film Council. The prize went to Cameron BAILEY in recognition of his accomplishment to introduce 14 and the most-ever Korean films including eight Korean films in the ‘City to City’ section that shed lights on Seoul, the capital of Korea, Haemoo invited to the Gala Screening section, Hill of Freedom and Revivre invited to the Master section to the 39th Toronto International Film Festival held this past September.
“This is the first Evening of Korean Cinema held after the Korean Film Council moved to Busan,” KIM Eui-suk, chairperson of the Korean Film Council said about hosting the event. “In 2014, Korean cinema set a new all-time Korean box office record (drawing 17.6 million audiences). North American film festivals created Korean film sections. These facts indicate Korean films’ take-off and growth in 2014,”KIM said in his welcoming speech.
