The New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) has begun to reveal the components of its 2014 lineup, which will kick off on June 27th in the US metropolis. Among its recent announcements were this year’s Korean Actor in Focus, which, following last year’s RYOO Seung-bum, will be LEE Jung-jae.

LEE has been a star for 15 years, having appeared in such films as The Uprising (1999), Asako in Ruby Shoes (2000) and Il Mare (2000). His star shone bright again following his charismatic supporting turn in CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Thieves (2012). The only confirmed titles for the spotlight so far are LEE’s 2013 hits New World, the gangster thriller from PARK Hong-joon that saw him star alongside CHOI Min-sik and HWANG Jung-min, and HAN Jae-rim’s Chuseok period blockbuster The Face Reader, starring SONG Kang-ho. LEE drew acclaim for both roles but particularly the latter, which saw him walk away with the Best Supporting Actor Award from last year’s Blue Dragon Awards.

One other Korean title has been confirmed for NYAFF so far, last summer’s surveillance thriller Cold Eyes, starring SEOL Kyung-gu, JUNG Woo-sung and HAN Hyo-joo.

NYAFF, which is put on by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema, in association with the Japan Society, will soon unveil its entire 2014 lineup, which will screen from June 27th to July 14th.
