The great SEOL Kyung-gu of Oasis (2002) and Public Enemy (2002) is set to star in KANG Woo-suk’s 20th film, Two Policemen (literal translation). Cinema Service Co. Ltd., the producer of the project, announced that SEOL was the first to be cast and that the title has been confirmed.

 

In previous years, KANG Woo-suk and SEOL Kyung-gu teamed up for Silmido (2003) and the Public Enemy films (2002-08) as director and lead actor. They also worked together on No Mercy (2010), which KANG produced; and in two films where KANG participated in the planning stages: Venus and Mars (2007) and Jail Breakers (2002). Besides Two Policemen, they are also preparing for a fourth installment of Public Enemy.

 

Two Policemen takes the concept of being a Joseon Dynasty era version of KANG’s early box office hit Two Cops (1993). The setting is a police station in Hansung, the old name for Seoul. An easy-going veteran policeman and a reckless newcomer to the force encounter chaotic situations together. “The original plan was for it to be the final episode of the Two Cops series (the film spawned two sequels) but during the process of writing the script, it took turns and became something new. We even took out the subtitle ‘Two Cops Zero’ and settled on the title Two Policemen, keeping the plan to showcase two characters,” said KANG, expressing his hopes for the film. Two Policemen will hit screens in 2014.
