A total of 14 Korean features are to screen this month in Italy at the 13th annual Udine Far East Film Festival. Running April 29 – May 7, the fest will open with China’s The Lost Bladesman, the latest from Infernal Affairs directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong. Also to screen opening day is the iPhone-shot 2011 Berlin-winning short Night Fishing, a collaboration between top Korean director PARK Chan-wook and his brother, media artist PARK Chan-kyong.

The fest will screen a line-up of innovative genre-bending thrillers from Korea, including last year’s Cannes-premiered Bedevilled by JANG Cheol-soo, the WON Bin starrer The Man from Nowhere by LEE Jeong-beom, Haunters a psychic thriller starring GANG Dong-won, directed by KIM Min-suk, The Unjust by top action director RYOO Seung-wan, Troubleshooter by KWON Hyeok-jae, and 2011 thriller The Showdown by PARK Hoon-jung.

On the lighter side are hit comedy Cyrano Agency by KIM Hyun-seok, unconventional sex-farce Foxy Festival by LEE Hae-young, My Dear Desperado by KIM Kwang-sik, Romantic Heaven by JANG Jin and Villain & Widow by SON Jae-gon. In the fest’s retrospective line-up are 2 Korean classics from 1961: Under the Sky of Seoul by LEE Hyung-pyo and An Upstart by KIM Soo-yong. Udine will screen a total of 87 films from 12 different countries, including 50 films in competition.
