The Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman: Han Sang-jun, hereinafter “KOFIC”) announced that on November 24, it signed a Cooperation Agreement on Shared Use of Film Information and Data Linkage with the Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB, Chairman: Kim Byung-jae, hereinafter “KMRB”) at KOFIC headquarters.

Through this agreement, the two organizations will jointly utilize the film and rating information they each hold and promote system-to-system data linkage. This initiative aims to enhance access and usability of information while jointly fostering the development of a data ecosystem for the Korean film industry.

Since March, KOFIC has been working on improving business processes for film information linkage and has completed the linkage system setup. In particular, by linking information regarding independent/arthouse film certification, the two organizations expect improved administrative services for the public and simplified submission procedures — ultimately enhancing user convenience.

Under this agreement, the two organizations will strengthen cooperation in the following areas:
▲shared utilization of film information ▲establishment of linkage systems and increased use of the standard film code ▲administrative efficiency ▲cooperation in the collection and utilization of film and online video information ▲promotion of AI-based data administration.

Chairman Han Sang-jun of KOFIC stated, “This agreement is an important starting point as it organically links film and rating information, elevating the data foundation of the Korean film industry to the next level. KOFIC will closely collaborate with KMRB to build an AI-based film-industry data ecosystem that benefits both the industry and the audience.”

KMRB Chairman Kim Byung-jae also noted, “With this agreement, the accessibility and usability of film and rating information will be significantly enhanced, establishing a stronger foundation for providing more accurate and efficient rating-classification services.”

Going forward, KOFIC and KMRB plan to continue close cooperation to expand the scope of shared film information and data linkage, and to advance public services for both the film industry and audiences — including efforts toward building a comprehensive film-industry data ecosystem.
