On every February, villagers offer prayers with all their hearts and burn incense at various places to console the victims. They’ve called this ceremony as “Dai Han(Korea) Commemoration”. In 1960s, South Korea fought in the Vietnam War as a US ally, insisting Korea should help to root out the communists in Vietnam. However, what they did was simple and cruel: they killed a large number of civilians. The survivors’ experience hasn’t nailed in the history instead it was treated as if it never existed. Korea’s official history documents that, thanks to the Vietnam War, Korea could achieve rapid economic growth. A memory of the war now has become a new war between two different memories which is “A War of Memories”.
