A father who can live underwater introduces his daughter to that world. She cannot swim and the world is strange to her - but her father gives her a fish’s garment that allows her to live there too. Still, she does not understand her father’s inmost heart, until a fish angel appears to her and explains her father’s feelings to her. As the girl matures into womanhood, her father grows old, and his scales start to come off. The girl presents her father with anew kind of fish garment that will help relieve his shortness of breath. Her father gives her a hair ornament, acknowledging that she has now become a woman. They, then, swim and rise up to the surface of the water to have a look over the land.
